SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL CLUB OF DAMANSARA (SID) was chartered on 19 July 1994 and currently has 20 members.

SID’s vision statement and core values mirror that of SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL, which is to advance the rights of women and children. SID is committed to :

a) Service to local and national communities; and
b) Raising the status of financially challenged women and children through education.

SID Current Programmes and Services

SID Literacy Program in 7 orphanages, shelter homes and training centers for the underpriviledged in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Malaysia. The program includes the establishment and maintenance of a structured reading program, and subsidizing of facilitators and tutors.
School uniforms and festive gifts for the children of the homes	SID Children’s Fund and JP-Morgan Children’s Fund provide children in three homes with basic essentials such as food, bursaries, school uniforms and shoes and any other needs that may arise,
SID cancer programs supported by our cancer fund and the TH - NCI fund. Through this program SID provides financial support to cancer patients, mainly women and children and organizes cancer awareness talks conducted by qualified doctors from time to time.	Regular visits with doctors and cancer patients at University Hospital

Accomplishments

Soroptimist International Award for Best Practice 2004 -2005 for exceptional Service as a Global Voice for women in the program area of Education for The Reading Program at The Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC) of YWCA Kuala Lumpur.

Our social events.

We do have great fun, not only from our social service but from our bonding outings, our Deepa-Raya, Christmas and Anniversary parties and in supporting our sister clubs in their own service and fun events.
