Jeyamalar Jeyaratnam
NLP Master Practitioner & Laughter Guru
Like a dove sharing messages of peace &
progress, Jeya - as she is fondly called - has
flown to many places and is proud to have been part
of lives of many who have gained from her sharing
as they shared of themselves.
Leaving Malaysia at the age of 17 for studies in
United Kingdom, it was the start of Jeya's foray in
the world of self discovery and personal
development.
One path led her into the exciting field of
Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). Quite simply, it
provides people with tools & skills to assist
them in developing mastery & excellence in
areas they want in life.
This then led to Jeya securing a Master
Practitioner Certification in Neurolinguistic
Programming before her pursuing her professional
certification in Health & Fitness. To showcase
her focus, Jeya put it all into action when she
started & ran her own gym in Glasgow,
Scotland!
Her passion for conducting Laughter Workshops -
which came soon after - is a stroke of genius as it
combines these two learning disciplines with great
fun!
This came about when she was introduced to study
the teachings of the famous Dr Madan Kataria of
Mumbai, India, who drew clear definitions to the
impressive science supporting the mind and body's
profit from laughter.
Like Dr Kataria, Jeya found that laughter not only
makes us feel better, but also elevates our mood
& raises our energy levels very quickly. This
is because when we laugh, it's a great aerobic
workout which sends more oxygen to our organs &
tissues. Our muscles also stretch & release
endorphins - which is our bodies' natural morphine.
This in turn, increases the performance of our
immune system as a whole!
Now, Jeya is back in her homeland, Malaysia to
spend some much awaited quality time with family.
In between, she contributes as President of
Soroptimist Ipoh & to various societies
assisting women & children, felines, canines
& others needing a caring voice and firm
action.
Yet there still seems to be more hours left in her
day! So, one would often find Jeya conducting
customized Laughter Workshops for special groups
and corporations.
Yes, this passionate Laughter Guru is keen to share
her knowledge & skills with all who wish to
discover more of themselves to transform &
further enrich their lives.
Many have sung praises for the double-whammy
benefits of gentle breathing & stretches
merging with the feel-good effects of belly
laughter. And more have had great fun with her
style of combining role-play & dance to loosen
up those funny bones!
Some of her clients who have discovered these
Secrets to Boundless Energy & Joy include HSBC
Bank Scotland, Edinburgh University, Queen Margaret
College, Endemol TV Production UK, Yayasan Sultan
Idris Shah, Daybreak(Ipoh), Pantai Putri Hospital
and Kinta Properties Holdings, Malaysia.

Aloha
Nite of high energy by Doris Lim
|
The camaraderie and positive energy among the
eighty Soroptimists on friendship night was
undeniable. Despite an abandoned BBQ on the beach
due to heavy rains, their high spirits and
sisterhood bonding was evident even when confined
indoors at the Pantai Garden.
With Aloha Nite as the theme, Soroptimists were
dressed for the occasion flaunting their attire in
various tropical shades. Banded together by
coloured ribbons of pink, blue, red, peach and
black, guests had to act out and showcase their
collective creativity to the ten skits conceived by
IPP Malicca Ratne and Anita Pater from SI Penang.
Imagine being trapped on a tropical island or panic
operations when a volcano is out to erupt.
Collecting seashells and enacting a raindance, or
playing out the tragic love story of Romeo and
Juliet, before a closing finale of a Hawaiian
wedding. With unusual twists and turns to the
skits, the hilarious entertainment confirmed the
hidden talents of Soroptimists as scriptwriters
and actresses for Hollywood and Bollywood!
The pink team bagged the top group prize with their
display of the raindance, while three other
Soroptimists garnered prizes for being the
best-dressed. Participation from all makes everyone
a winner.

BOLLYWOOD
GALA CHARITY DINNER & DANCE By Sharon
Saw
|
Despite a packed conference and extended AGM which
only ended as the Gala Dinner was about to start,
the Soroptimist sisters miraculously managed to
transform themselves into Bollywood stars befitting
the Bollywood Gala Charity Dinner & Dance!
Stunningly attired in a sparkling rainbow of
colourful sarees and pujabi outfits, SI ladies and
guests dressed in glitter and glamour filled the
hall. To the delight of many (and horror of some!),
a real life python greeted the guests as they
entered and many took the opportunity to take
photographs with the beautiful creature.
Several Bollywood dance performances provided
entertainment for the evening as well as a comic
sketch by the veteran Alleycats.
A charity auction of art pieces and a raffle with
wonderful prizes raised funds for Charis Hospice
Penang and SI Penang's Blossom project. One of the
eagerly awaited highlights of the evening was the
announcement of the winners of the SIROM Best
Practice Awards.
SI Bangsar won 2nd Runner Up for their "Lights of
Knowledge" project, a 5-phase project from tuition,
couselling, setting up of resource centre, book
barrel drive to running a Children's Personal
Safety Workshop for the marginalised children of
Nur Zaharah Centre at Janda Baik.
SI Petaling Jaya won 1st Runner Up for their 3
Clubs 1 heart initiative via their Peace Through
Yoga event, where old folks, underprivileged
children and the wheelchair bound enjoyed a morning
of yoga. This was an interclub effort,
affectionately named '3 clubs 1 heart', which
involved SI Bangsar, SI Petaling Jaya and SI Shah
Alam, working together to raise funds for a school
for the handicapped in Janda Baik.
And the best practice award went to SI Johor Bahru,
for their Rohingyas project, which aimed to help
this unfortunate group who have been marginalised
and rejected throughout the region. Congratulations
to SI Johor Bahru, SI Petaling Jaya and SI Bangsar
for their well deserved awards!
Finally, there was the handing over of the Chain of
Office and flash bulbs went off continuously as
photos were taken of the outgoing and incoming
SIROM executive committee. The evening finished
with dancing into the night - Bollywood style!
Congratulations to SIROM and the Conference
Organising Committee for a superb event and many
thanks to SI Penang for being a wonderful host.
